Give us your feedback here about the upcoming upgrade!

To-do

Design
  • Times New Roman font in posts
  • Spoiler tag
  • Orange hover on thumbnails/signatures needs to be removed
  • Orange hover bar on column titles in thread list view needs to be removed
  • Some Buttons colors need to be changed
  • Poll Icon (not just a ?)
  • youtube bbcode broken http://ngemu.com/threads/broken-links-bbcode.158982/#post-2131362
  • Replace "?" avatar with something less annoying
  • Only aesthetic issue I find now is the transparency on forum description hover box. It overlaps with other parts and is not legible.
  • Version history of a resource has the ugly yellow header also. Download Now could also be a bit improved.

Navigation
Other Items
  • Bin Access Promotion 100 post and 30 days
  • Tapatalk not working
  • One can be of both genders now.
  • Polls not imported correctly
  • Attachments not imported correctly

You can register and mess around just to test. None of those post will be kept. I will try to build a list of the feedback we receive so that once the migration is done, we can prioritize which changes need to be done. We are already aware of some design issues. Namely with some font/colors not fitting right.

As for the right column, I don't find it to be too big. What resolution are you running on?

Should we register and do test/feedback there too?

Can the column on the right (the one with userinfo/forum statistics/sharing) be hidden when reading a thread? It seems like a waste of space. Worse if you like to see lots of posts per page.
What we plan on doing with the side bar in thread view is by default it will be one but you will be able to turn it off permanently in your control panel or by selecting a child theme.

1920x1080, usually browsing at a width a bit wider than half (~1200).

At first it's fine for me, but later it feels wasteful. Column with info - Column blank

Nice. :thumb:

#EDIT2:

The DraStic (resource?) looks pretty neat. :thumb:

Yeah the resource manager is going to be awesome for the download repository. Still needs a few tweaks but at least we'll have everything in one place and will be easily maintainable.
Just a heads up those tweaks we need- specifically the ability to ad a custom icon to the resource will be a few weeks off. Those tweaks are in the next version of the Resource Manager which is currently in Beta 2 testing.

I know we discussed on the other board, but i wanted to keep everyone else in loop ;)

will need to compile a list of links that need to be fixed.
Yup. Once we have a few, I'll ad them to first post. Just let me know in this thread.

Sounds good!

Got a new reply notification email, and it looks great. :thumb:
All this little changes certainly make the current forum feel old.
One of the best things about moving to Xenforo will be that we can keep the site bleeding edge, updating it shortly after new versions come out. We have been stuck on VB for so long due to abandoned plugins and difficulty re skinning. The download feature is an add on that is made by Xenforo, (as well as the superpowered search) so we wont have to worry about anyone abandoning the main feature this community needs.

The Sign In Button, Front Page news, Forum statistics and Share this page dialogue boxes are dreadfully placed within threads. It forces a big margin on the right hand side that ends up being blank space for most of the thread. If we need to have it (we don't) then either move it to be at the bottom of the page or get rid of it. It's terrible.

Come to think of it, its distracting on the main page too and pulls your eyes away from where you want to go. Most successful forums don't have this kind of functionality on the main forum section page and its never needed.

Within threads, everyones avatar and username dialogue box thing is terrible. There is some stupid arrow that sticks out, get rid of it. There's also too many boxes in that area. Boxes around avatars, boxes around statistics, boxes around administrators, BOXES BOXES BOXES HOLY **** DO WE NEED SO MANY BOXES!

Simplifying it would do wonders. The old system is fairly stripped down (personally I don't see the need for stars, location or post count but that's just me) and doesn't distract from the main content of the thread (which is the most important part).

The giant button that directly sits next to each forum section is heinous. It is too dominating and serves too little a purpose. Get rid of it.

Overall the forum looks very busy. Lots of stupid boxes, too many colour changes, dumb stuff on the right hand side that isn't important enough to be EVERYWHERE, theres too much going on before you get to a thread and its content. It needs to be simplified, something VB forums do very well.

You can(or will be able to) disable the statistics, though they'll be enabled by default. Not sure about the others, but given that you can do that getting the rest like that should be easy.

The sign up button, meanwhile, becomes your avatar, post count, like count and "trophy points" count once you're logged in. Clicking it gives you quick access to your profile and other info(gender, age, last viewed topic). Still not that useful, but it's not as obnoxious or annoying.

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BOXES(really, there's a lot of them. But I don't particularly hate them).

There's talk about replacing those buttons that sit next to the forums. Perhaps with section-specific buttons. Or at least something that goes more along the lines of what we have now.

I like it so far but I understand any concerns others pointed out so far. Perhaps once the upgrade goes live a light theme similar to the current Vbulletin theme could be considered? I know that the Vbulletin theme can't be replicated to the tee but it could be designed to closely resemble the classic look and feel.

How long would the upgrade take for a forum this size? Perhaps the upgrade can be done separately as to minimize downtime especially if something happens to go wrong during the upgrade. It would be nice to see some kind of OpenID authentication such as Facebook but I have a feeling that most here would be against that. I particularly favor an OpenID type login for websites I frequent so I don't have to remember several passwords across sites. Also it is kind of redundant because there are likely browser extensions that can accomplish the same thing.

The upgrade will take about 2 hours for the data import so during that two hours no data can be changed or it will corrupt the import. Thats why it has to be shut down. It will take another hour or so to config some setting to make it usable. It will take most of the rest of the day to smooth out the rough spots, but we want to let everyone in right away to minimize disruption. Thats why we ask for some patience- we will still be working on it when everyone is let in.

We will have Facebook OpenID login as an OPTION. If you dont want to login will be exactly the same.

I like the OpenID idea. I tend to use my G+ account more and more when visiting new sites that require an account. Will we be able to switch or bind an existing account with an OpenID?

I'll be gone all day tomorrow. Hopefully things will go relatively smooth and when I get home tonight there won't be too much drama :p

So, I don't need to re-register, correct?
