The Xebra/Arbex Guide:

Latest Version Change Log (150215):

CPU: Default Run Mode was fixed.
GPU: One drawing method(MaskTest->Lighting->Blending) was fixed.

General Info:

XEBRA.EXE: is a very accurate emulator that is updated and fixed constantly.
It may be even the most compatible emulator to date.

ARBEX.EXE: is a Xebra build that do not require Bios, its also an HLE (High-Level Emulator)
and may not run few games that require a more accurate adresses from the console.
(like Gameshark CDs).

SIM.EXE: Is a simulation editor that controlls the virtual behaviour of the consoles "Brain".

MCM.EXE: Is a memory card manager. You can delete games, format card, extract icons.
It also can save many formats including many emulators and cheating devices.

* Read the Help inside Xebra to see whats new and how to operate it.

Bios:

Rename any bios file (ex. scph1001.bin) to OSROM (no extention) and put it in the Xebra directory.
New XEBRA version do not require a bios.

How to Run CDs:

(1)File/Open/CD-ROM via SPTI, then select ANY file on the disk.
(2)Run/Run 2 (1-pass) or press F5

How to properly swap CDs:

(1)Run/Pause or F6
(2)Run/Open Shell
(3)File/Open/CD-ROM via SPTI, then select ANY file on the disk.
(4)Run/Close Shell
(5)Run/Run 2 (1-pass) or F5

Or just use steps (2),(3),(4) without pausing the emulation.
This will be more like in the real console (but you will hear noise when using the menu without pausing).

Controller Mapping:

Thanks to TBx.

I use X, Y, Z, R, and everything works as it should with DS3 and MotionInJoy in third setting.
For XBOX360 controller I think it should be X, Y, U, R.

CHEATS:

You can use a Gameshark/Pro Action Replay CDs but I would suggest using CEP.
CEP is also writen by Dr. Hell and its working like PEC but not through a plugin.

* Cheat CDs only work with Xebra, because Arbex is HLE (High Level Emulation).
CEP works with both.

First you run Xebra & Game then you run CEP and point it to a running process (XEBRA.EXE).
Now you select or type your cheats, and load them directly into the already running emulator.

Easy as Pie.

CEP 024 is attached.
Read CEP.TXT inside for instructions.

P.S

* Use Daemon Tools to mount images (Make sure it's the latest for proper audio CD playback).
* Spread the word of this great emulator.

XEBRA have always been funny when it comes to controller configuration.

I'm using a EAXUS PS USB adapter with my original PS2 controller and I always had to use the Digital option in XEBRA because the other options didn't work.

XEBRA is an amazing PS emulator but broken controller configuration is not good at all as it's one of the most important aspects for playing your games.

And as you say other emulators doesn't have this issue at all, I'm currently on ePSXe and my analog sticks works just fine.

I'm not even sure if Dr.Hell comes to this forum or if he/she speaks English as the main website is in Japanese and the forum as well.

This is a problem and a big turn down for me, not to be able to communicate with the author of an emulator/plugin and just waiting for issues to randomly be fixed.

Unless I'm blind, I can't find documentation explaining how to set up Mednafen through BizHawk. I got Mednafen to work through MedGUI but for some odd reason, I'm not able to configure the window size and the viewing area is about a 4x4 square.

How do I configure Mednafen to work via BizHawk?

#165 ·
Thanks for the help Exos. It's greatly appreciated!

So far, so good and I agree; BizHawk is a great emulator. Gives Xebra a run for it's money. The only issue I'm having (which could just be a setting) is the background music gets 'stuck' in a high pitched sound sometimes, and there's slight screen jittering (which again is most likely a configuration issue) but other than that, excellent speed, graphics and feels really smooth.

UPDATE: Xebra OCT 11th 2015 is up!

Audio crackling is finally fixed !
It will be ALWAYS in sync without you needing to change anything.
And yes, clicking the menu will not make the sound go into a stutter loop neither.

Changelog in Japanese only but I'll post the translated version:
①CD:
Fix the relationship of Setloc and Seek and Read.

② Soud Output:
Sound of XEBRA was implemented in the most handy PlaySound () at the beginning.
Since this API can not be queued, It took the means of loop playback buffer rewriting.
However, since the reproduction position of the buffer is not known
It had come out trouble overlap rewriting position and the playback position by the timing. (resulting in crackle..Ahem.)
Then, How can was changed to API for waveOut system that can recognize the playback position,
This time it queuing has disappeared completely from the head, It was still the loop playback buffer rewriting.
WaveOut system in this review is that the queuing can be Since found was , adjusting the position of the buffer was no longer required.
(meaning, it will be in perfect sync FOREVER!)

③ Scale processing correspondence of GDI:
The Ya case does not contain only emulation driver as OpenGL
It feels as vertical synchronization restrictions are increasingly took environment .
Because the case is faster of GDI, we have to be able to scale processing even GDI.

④CUE2CCD:
New CUE Tool.
*Didn't bother translating.
Hurrah for this new build and thank you Dr.Hell.
*Beat this Bizhawk... :)

Oh yes, always use the latest Daemon Tools Lite version for best experience even though Xebras image loading is quite advanced.

Yes XEBRA is great and all, but it doesn't play Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (PAL) which is the only game in my collection that can't be played in XEBRA and holding me back from using XEBRA as my only PSX emu.

I have to rely on ePSXe and a .sbi file from redump.org with my .bin and .cue files.

Nothing would make me happier to only use XEBRA and stop using plugin based emulators, but as long as not Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (PAL) is supported I can't make the leap because I hate using 2 emulators for the same system.

It freezes at the "This game contains scenes with explicit violence and gore"

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (PAL) is one of more then hundred games using LibCrypt protection which were introduced in the game MediEvil October 1998.

What's special about this protection is that it uses subchannels to store some non-Yellow Book data, thus breaking the standard.

That's why you have to use .sbi files that contains the protection information that those PAL games got and that are needed to run those protected games in emulators such as ePSXe which I use now.

XEBRA can't use .sbi files today as far as I know..

Is this in relation to running XEBRA on Android? For some reason, I was alerted to this reply without ever being alerted to the previous conversations about Android compatability, so now I'm a bit lost. In any case, I have not had any problems with running XEBRA on my computer after the whole upgrade to Windows 10 trouble and even with the newer 151203 version out. If you still have controller issues, you may need to forgo using certain wireless controller adapters (XEBRA just refuses to acknowledge the existence of inputs from my PS2 controller plugged into a Super Joy Box 5 Pro. A sad ninja I am).

For those with Android issues, I'll be looking into this myself this weekend and see what I can make of it. If someone manages to beat me o it, then that's all fine by me. I have a somewhat older Android phone (Samsung Galaxy SIII), but I'm hoping it can still support XEBRA.

Hello Everyone,

New Xebra version availible.

Xebra (2017/01/17) Changelog:
■ Correspondence to incorrect display area setting

For example, in PS 1, NTSC (i)
Considering that it is composed of 262 horizontal lines in the first half 263 / the second half,
By designating the display start line number and the display stop line number
I can bias the display area

First of all, when we refined this behavior last time
It had been changed to 263 in both front and back, so I fixed it.

In addition, it is inevitable
The start line number is smaller than the end line number and must be smaller than No. 261.
Otherwise the VSYNC interrupt will be missing
This time we also corresponded to cases with such illegal numbers.

As a series of refinements, the display of the memory card manager
Although it has become strange phenomenon
For this, for example, it is necessary to adjust I Cache Rate to about 22 or so.

[updated] XEBRA 20-03-10 PS1 EMULATOR

changelog:
º This release is intended to spread user-posted language files. There are no special feature updates.

º The extension of the cheat code file has been changed from ".par" (Pro Action Replay) to ".ar" (Action Replay). This is because adding "Pro" to the name without the search function is incorrect.
