Post your random gaming thoughtS!!

To start things off:

Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops will be playable in stereoscopic 3D when it launches worldwide on November 9.

Publisher Activision said that the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions of the shooter will be compatible with 3D-ready HDTVs and 3D PCs utilising active shutter 3D glasses.

Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia said: "Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops.

"Aiming down the sights of your weapons, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the awesome experiences you will have in 3D with Black Ops."

He added: "We made sure the experience is seamless for gamers to use with a simple menu option to enable stereoscopic 3D or disable it at any time whether playing in the single player campaign, multiplayer or Zombies."

Black Ops multiplayer was looking more ambitious than we imagined when we went hands-on last month.

Elite: Dangerous 1.0 went live yesterday. Haven't completed the training missions yet, and I'm unsure just how much I want to play without an Oculus Rift. And a good flight stick set-up for that matter.

Still, it's looking good. More time will of course bring more content and more bugfixes (although I haven't ran into any bugs yet). Runs at maximum settings, 1080p, on my GTX760. Havent measured FPS yet, but it was pretty fluid.

Yup. It does have to be connected to play the single player though.

One of the more interesting as of yet unreleased features is "group/friend" play.

Then of course there is the fully online, MMO-ish open universe play.

I assume you're talking about the need to be online even when playing single player. The thing about it is, is that the game continuously updates real-time information about factions and prices to reflect economic and political changes. So even if you're playing single player the actions of players in the multiplayer version will influence local politics and prices. so while it may be DRM, at least the player does get something out of it.

I have a single key for The Secret World which allows someone to play for free for 30 days, gives you an 8 hour XP potion and 5$ worth of bonus points.
I'll give the key to anyone interested, just leave a message here. Please make sure you're genuinely interested in the game, since there's only one key available.
Anyone else who bought the game probably has a similar key waiting in their email folder, if people want to share more of them.

(This is a MMO, btw)

Played Secret World during one of those free weekend thingies, and I really didn't like the combat. Which is a pity, because there seems to be some genuine good content littered throughout the game, but it's an MMORPG, you'll be combating more than half the time and when that's no good, then what's the point?

The combat is also the part I liked the least, but I've seen some people who love it. It does offer a great deal of customization and lets people explore many different "decks" to combine abilities in interesting ways.
I didn't like how floaty and dead the combat felt, tho.
The rest of the game was pretty good. This would have made an amazing single-player game.

So how many own and played The Evil Within?

I like it, I think it has potential not only gameplay-wise but story wise as well. If they make a sequel hopefully they can improve on the first and address some complaints. Hopefully the DLC will clear up the somewhat confusing story although I wish there wasn't DLC and it was integrated into the story. The game is good however they need to overhaul optimization. The game runs really cruddy, far worse than it should and has quite a bit of bugs and technical issues. None of the graphics options does anything to improve performance except lowering resolution. I can barely achieve 30fps at 720p or 1366 x 768, a GTX 780 or better is needed for 60fps play. Even a GTX 980 can get to 60fps and above with average fps of 60fps to 75fps and still occasionally dips below the 60fps mark. It looks like the very few titles coming out as of recent will push me to upgrade to at least a GTX 970 and the visuals are nothing special that weaker hardware couldn't handle if devs paid mind to optimizations. They rather artificially bloat requirements and release jumbled messes riddled with technical issues. With TEW the engine isn't fully responsible for atrocious performance as Rage and apparently Wolfenstein run fine using the engine. Bethesda is like cancer and is taking them too long to get patches out, there is barely any collaboration from their reps and they don't offer community beta testing of patches. Despite my minor criticisms about the RE4:UHD part I have nothing but good things to say about Wbacon collaborating with the community and trying to please the community as well as offering beta testing of patches.

Tango is a Bethesda run studio. Bethesda calls the shots as much if not more than Tango. Sure Tango is responsible for development and I never denied that but Bethesda ultimately handles community relations, pushing patches and supporting the game. Tango has to answer to Bethesda who has control over them. It is only Bethesda reps responding on TEW community discussion hub but their interaction with the community is scarce other than popping in once in a while to acknowledge some complaints and pass them along.

Bethesda can decide what and what not to fix, they have authority to pull support at anytime, have power over the frequency patches are developed and pushed out. It's a misconception Bethesda is just an innocent publisher that has no control, Bethesda are directly involved with development to an extent. Tango to Bethesda is similar to how Bungie was to Microsoft. It was Bethesda reps that initially posted to inflated system requirements. It was Bethesda that ultimately made the decision for the game to be released in the state it is with atrocious performance and technical issues. Bethesda is involved more than everyone believes they are and are not simply just a publisher.

Bethesda is just as responsible as Tango. Bethesda needs to document issues reported, pass them to Tango devs and have patches pushed out in a timely manner. They should support public beta testing of patches ala Capcom with RE4:UHD.

It's safe to say Bethesda has enough power to influence dev support. It is not unreasonable to expect the game to receive as little support as Skyrim with official patches being axed and the community left to pick up the pieces. The difference is TEW doesn't yet have much of a community nor a modding scene should official publisher/dev support be dropped.

Sorry for mistakes. I haven't gone to bed yet so if there's errors I apologize.

Yeah he gets killed quite quick in nightmare so I had to constantly watch his back. That makes getting the achievement for him taking no damage extremely difficult or impossible. I think I have some more practice and brushing up on skills to do before I can brave Akumu mode.

Edit: Btw I am quite surprised I was able to record with Fraps without severely impacting performance. In the past trying to record with Fraps caused my fps to plummet but in this game little to no impact and smooth while recording.
