I cannot use USB Joystick in Virtual Jaguar :(

So yes, I cannot use my USB PS2 controller on Vitual Jaguar. I am using the latest version of the emu 2.1.2

I can assign the buttons and the Dpad just fine on the config window, but everytime I want to start playing a game, it goes back to the default keyboard.

Like I said everything seems to work just fine, but it simple doesn't work as it doesn't stay on the USB controller I chose and mapped.

Is there any config file I can put my eyes on?? I cannot seem to find any! Cheers and thank you guys for this emu!

Edit: Keyboard doesn't work either... I am using x64 version on Windows 8.1
Edit again: 32 version doesn't work either...

The way device maps work is that you have to tell VJ which virtual controller port you want it to go to (the "Maps to:" combobox). If that combobox says "None", well, guess what will happen? :p

So, the combinations are: "None", "Port #1", "Port #2", and "Either one that's free". If you choose "Port #1", VJ will attempt to map the controller to virtual port #1. If you choose "Port #2", VJ will attempt to map the controller to virtual port #2. If you choose "Either on that's free", VJ will attempt to map the controller to a free virtual port, assuming they haven't been taken already by other controllers.

VJ will try to do the right thing (it can resolve some simple conflicts), but it's not foolproof. If you tell VJ that your controller maps to nothing, VJ will happily comply with what you told it to do.

N.B.: This reply is purely speculation on my part; you didn't leave enough information for me to determine what the problem you're having is.

I am sorry, I'll give you more info;

I choose USB controller Twin USB (my controller), I choose port 1, I map each button to the controller, I leave it there and I exit the Emu so it can save the config. I open the Emu again, I can see it has chosen the keyboard by default (even though I have the USB controller plugged in). Still, I go to the Joystick config and there is my mapping saved, I choose it, BUT I go to a game and nope, controller doesn't work.

I have done a huge amount of different configs and nothing works. What is most weird is that no matter what I change in the config, even if I change the Keyboard mapping, I still if I let's say push J, it will push B, and the mapping I made is completely different, yet it always chooses the first config the Emulator came with.

According to the config window I HAVE changed the button mapping, but in reality, nothing has changed.

Now I finally managed to get Xpadder working somehow, I choose the default button maping and with that I use my controller. It didn't work at first (Xpadder) but now after fiddling for 2 days is working, but I have no idea why, cause it didn't work before.

I still think this wonderfull emu SHOULD have a config file, so we can change our video, controller, etc settings, so we know when configs are saved or not, etc, etc. It would make the Emu more stable.

Cheers and thanks for listening :)

I am having this problem too, although Virtual Jaguar won't even see my USB joystick. How do you tell VJ what virtual controller port you want it to go to? I don't see any of the stuff you are talking about below. All I get is the box where you configure Controller 1 & 2 and it's mapped to my keyboard.

There's no need to exit the emulator to save the config, the config is saved when you dismiss the configuration dialog with the "OK" button.

You have to pay attention to all the mappings for all the devices you have connected, and that includes the keyboard. Closing out VJ and going back in will show all devices connected when you go back into the configuration dialog, with the keyboard being listed first, so that is not surprising. If you look at the "Device" combobox, you'll see your gamepad is still in the list (assuming it's still connected to your computer), and if you select it, the mapping you set should still be there.

If for some reason VJ can't write its config then that's a bug that needs fixing.

Ok, thanks for posting back Shamus :) I hope you can add a config file down the line then. Oh yes, maybe you can add volume control, the emu has very low volume. Choosing resolutions would be very nice too! :)

All in all, thanks man, you seem like a very easy going guy. Keep up the great work! Cheers from Chile.
