I don't illegally download anything, but I really need to get a PSX emulator as it's the only way I can play my favorite game on the PC. Obviously you need to dump the PSX BIOS instead of downloading it so you can use PSX emulators legally, but you have to mod your PSX in order to do that, and I don't have the tools for that.
BUT, I DO have a modded PSP, and I just found out that it IS possible to dump the PSX BIOS from the PSP and it even works in emulators. Unfortunately, all the downloads links I found online for the dumper program are dead.
Can someone here PLEASE provide me EVERYTHING I need to dump the PSX BIOS from the PSP? And then guide me on how to do it?
I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL TO WHOEVER CAN FULFILL THIS REQUEST!!!
If that doesn't help and you still want to do it the hard way post and I'll explain how to do it.
You can grab my dumper from the links in my signature.
Thank You Shendo! Sorry it took so long to respond, but using your tools I was able to successfully dump the PS1 BIOS from my PSP! Now I can use ePSXe with no legal issues!
One more question: I'd really like to use pSX Emulator again (the one that's fully portable natively), but can't because it crashes when trying to load my dumped BIOS. Since the PS1 BIOS from PSP is incomplete, is there a way to patch it so that it has full functionality? That way I can use it on ANY PS1 emulator and not just ePSXe?
If you really want to invest time in that I guess the starting point would be pSX's debugger.
You should step through instructions and see which one(s) make it crash.
New version has it too. It's just inside a binary image i shared.
I don't know why you would need executable though as POPS converters need images for conversion...
Hiyas, I'm new here so nice to meet you all. I've been looking everywhere on how to get psx bios from a psp and have only found information on it here. I have the psx bios dumper 2.6 from your signature link Shendo, but the guide link in your blog doesn't seem to work and in the readme it only mentions how to do it on a ps1. If it's not too much trouble could someone guide me on how to do it? Thanks
You need to have a CFW enabled PSP. If you have it then use a POPS converter (eg. PSX2PSP) to convert bin/cue image to PBP.
Place exported directory in the GAME folder on your PSP and boot the "game". From the menu select a part of the BIOS you want to dump.
Copy each segment from the PSP and use MemcardRex to convert it to .mcr. Name each card after the part you dumped (eg. Part1.mcr).
If you have a CWCheat you can use it's ingame menu to save multiple cards on the MemoryStick in .mcr format,
which saves time as you won't need to re run dumper and convert files from VMP to mcr.
After that use BIOSmerge application to connect all those files together.
Thanks for taking the time to help me, I'm new to this but I think I understand most of it. Looking at what PSX2PSP is, does that mean I need a playstation game disc to convert to work on psp for this to work, or would I be able to use one of the ps1 games I have digitally from the store?
I have CFW installed on my psp already and got my psp games off it to play with ppsspp, so I think I could get CWCheat installed and the BIOSmerge part sounds easy.
So I found Shendo's profile on the PlayStation Development Network, but I could not find a link to a download of the ps1 bios dumper for psp, is there still a download available?
