Hello my friend, i want to know what kind of plugins you are using. Because Metal Gear Solid is a little complicating on trying to emulate it inside at ePSXe. I find out for my self on how to open it pretty well. Hope i may help you
Depending at your machine counterpart. At your sound plugs Try on using the Eternal SPU 1.41 Plugin. A lot of users said; It's a great option for this game. But also, inside at my own experience it gave me a lot of problems, so then later i decided on use the ePSXe SPU core and it starting on working very well.
Although, those P.E.O.P. s Audio drivers are very bad. And only works well if you mount the Game CD inside on a Virtual Memory ( not always )
MGS can be played pretty well unmounted. But assuming that you can use the ePSXe SPU core it will be a lot of hard work on how to find out on config the Framerates right away.
Inside at your Video Plugin. You have to deal with the Framerate options always, and find out what is the ideal good way to deal with this game.
At the Framerate section: these options will be selected: Use FPS Limit / Use Frame Skipping / and for the last: FPS Limit (10-200) on 30 to 40 ( even lower if needed )
You can use this kind of configuration inside at the versions 1.70 / 1.80 / 1.90 / 1.90.25
Inside at the 1.52 & 1.60 versions; is the same as the above, but the differences along the FPS limits (10-200) should be at 50 or 60 ( even above if needed )
I did everything you said and i even changed between to epsxe SPU core and the Eternal SPU 1.41 but the sound is still studdering and now its crackling.
What are your system specifications? CPU and GPU? It sounds like you are having performance problems with the game. MGS on PSX uses a lot of framebuffer effects which does cause performance issues on older PC hardware or lacking GPU hardware/software.
Hey man, open MGS using the gpuPeopsSoft 1.18 and see what's happening ( just for testing ), because i opened this game using this kind of video Plugin, and opens well.
Try setting your VRam size to your actual video ram.
