Whatever "aladrin" meant, I also have a problem with ACU.

WITHOUT X360CE: The game transparently detects my gamepad (ACME brand), but the buttons are all wrong and the right stick has axes swapped (horizontal is vertical).

WITH X360CE ON 32-BIT LIBS (the same ones that worked perfectly for all the previous AC games): The same as above. There's no "ding" indicating X360CE loading, so I guess I need the 64-bit library, as tutorials say.

WITH 360CE ON 64-BIT LIBS (xinput1_3.dll 3.4.0.848, size 133632 bytes): There's a ding, or three if I remove "Version=1" and let xinput1_3.dll pester me with warnings. All right, so at least it loaded. Too bad ACU no longer reacts to the gamepad AT ALL now. With this setup, the X360CE app detects the dll version, but no longer enables emulation (no "ding" either), but as tutorials say, the 32-bit app doesn't work with 64-bit libs.

So:
- My ini file should be set correctly, using a 32-bit app and a 32-bit lib, it did work for other games already without a hitch.
- I switched to the 64-bit libs.
- I modified the ini to use the right hookflags instead of a hookmode. I have an x360ce.gdb in the game exe dir, too, and the flags for ACU.EXE are in it.

What did I miss?

EDIT: Somehow it worked, out of the blue. Then I alt-tabbed out and back into the game and it no longer reacted to the gamepad. Seeing as there WAS one report about the game losing the gamepad when alt-tabbing out, I'm trying not to alt-tab... but for me the game starts by going fullscreen and then dropping out of focus again, so I have to re-enter it and then the gamepad is gone. That one time above when it worked, it actually did NOT minimize, so maybe it's losing the gamepad by dropping out of fullscreen mode... Trying to make it stop doing that, somehow.

FINAL EDIT: BREAKTHROUGH. The alt-tabbing, or dropping out of fullscreen or focus, is the culprit. I have to force the game to LOSE focus as it is starting - by clicking on other windows. As soon as I hear the Ubi logo playing, I alt-tab into the game for the first time. AND IT ALL WORKS. As long as I don't alt-tab out.

Can a mod please edit the thread's title to indicate there's some sort of a solution in here?

Yes, it does, but only if I don't let it lose focus. Like I said - for some reason my ACU returns me back to desktop when it should start playing the UBI logo, and I have to alt-tab back into it. If I let that happen, no gamepad for me. If I prevent that and defocus ACU immediately, it starts playing the logo clip in the background, and THEN I alt-tab into it and never alt-tab out, I keep the gamepad running fine.
