Unable to make Tomb Raider II backup disc.

I've scoured Google for a solution to my problem, to no avail.

I own a legitimate copy of Tomb Raider II for the PSX. Specifically, it is a "Collector's Edition" version that is part of a compilation that was sold awhile back. I did NOT download this from a ROM site.

In the past, I ripped ISOs of this CD with CloneCD (using the "Data CD") option, and loaded them into a virtual drive like Virtual CloneDrive. The game runs fine in ePSXe.

But now I want to run backups on real hardware, like my modified PS2.

I used ImgBurn to burn a CD from the ".CCD" file, and set it to burn at 1x and had the "Verify" box checked. However, my burner can only burn as low as 7x, so it defaults to that.

I put a burned CD into my modified PS2. I can get as far as the title screen, but there is no music. When I actually try to start a new game via the passport, the game freezes and I get a black screen.

Then I put a burned CD into my computer's drive, and had ePSXe run the CD from that physical drive instead of the virtual one. Same results!

So the game runs fine in an ISO form in a virtual drive, but won't run as a burned physical copy.

I tried burning the CD from a ".CUE" file instead via ImgBurn with the same settings, but got the same failtastic results.

Then I tried burning the CD from a ".CCD" file via CloneCD instead. I set it to burn at 1x, but CloneCD defaulted to 7.9x. Same failtastic results!

I am using Sony CD-R 700 MB discs rated at 1x - 48x. I don't intend to waste all these discs in an attempt to backup one game!

I'm at my wits end with this. What am I doing wrong?

You have made a wrong image.
If you use the DataCD option only the Datatrack will be ripped.
I've looked at Redump.org for info about this CD.
Tomb Raider 2 - Collectors edition CD have 61 Tracks! (including Music)
http://redump.org/disc/13235/

Playing mutilated Multitrack-Images on Emu's is no Problem. The Emulator will ignore missing Musictracks.

But what happens if you want to burn such image and play it on a real Playstation (2)?
The Playstation remain that there must be music and will play something not existing or empty sectors or what ever...but no Music... I need to explain more:rolleyes:?

We have here a beautiful old guide on how to create an image of a "black disc".

How strange. I used the "Data CD" option before, and all the music is present while playing the ISO (in a virtual drive) in ePSXe. In other words, there are no missing music tracks when played as an ISO in a virtual drive.

It seems that these music tracks just disappear when it is burned onto a physical disc.

I will attempt to rip another ISO via CloneCD with the settings mentioned in the thread linked above.

I have posted on other boards about this issue, and am getting conflicting solutions. Once I find the right answer I will share it with all of you, since there seems to be no definite answer available on the Internet.

As long as its created using Imgburn, a *.bin and *.cue file will be created. When burning with Imgburn again, ensure that the *.cue file contains multiple tracks before selecting it.

I've got good news and bad news.

First the good news.

The CloneCD instructions mentioned here work! The disc I burned "works" in ePSXe and my modified PS2.

Now the bad news. I say "works" in quotations for a reason. Although I can play the 1st level now, the game's running speed is choppy and slow. I suspect it has something to do with the audio tracks being burned at a speed greater than 4x (my burner can only burn as low as 7x).

Still, this is better than nothing.
