It was Connectix VGS (Virtual GameStation) that was bought by Sony. Connectix itself was bought by Microsoft and you can see some remnants of that in Hyper-V (based on Virtual PC, which was originally a Connectix product).
bleem! was sued and while they didn't lose the lawsuit, the costs were simply too high for them to continue.
well, if it would actually run on anything newer than win9x (it can't) it would probably be capable to run any game at several 1000* percents of its intended speed on a modern pc....
*very rough estimate
Either way, it's completely outdated now. Even bleemcast (a version of bleem! that was running on Dreamcast and adapted on a per-game basis) was already far better than the original.
It doesn't work graphically for most of the games, it has way inaccurate 3d rendering and most of the newer emulators are slower as they fixed the compatibility and has more accurate rendering.
Honestly I stopped using bleem ten years ago when I got so many games not working with the emulator and started using newer ones that if you have a powerful enough computer then you can produce much better graphics.
I truly someone is even talking about an emulator that is so old and is even asking for an update, I remember ten years ago there were hacks for bleem to increase compatibility and features but even still you will get graphic glitches and many other issues like broken sound and such.
I have moved on from bleem more than 10 years ago and never looked back
The research Bleem was based on is missing the huge developments of the 15 years that followed its release.
If you need plugin-less emus, pSX is still a better starter option, albeit inactive. Try any other emu and you'll see what you may be missing on.
No more like they were selling the emulator, especially ones for dreamcast as actual discs that ran on dreamcast without any mods and they did so advertising play playstation games on dreamcast despite zero licensing from sega or sony... If they stuck with windows version only then they would have been under the radar... but they did hey look at me and hey we got dreamcast versions that you can buy...
They may have went to court with sony but it wasn't head on, sony forced them to cease and desist and took them to court to as it would cost them massive money to go to court and then fine them. In case you did not know court is not taking a big company on unless you take the big company to court and even then I would call it not taking them on but a massive vain attempt as even if they will lose they will drag it out to ensure you lose allot of money to stay in court. This how big companies wins court cases and why it usually ends as a payout before going to court.
yeah, I know, although I'm pretty sure they got Sony's attention even before the DC versions.
They never lost the legal battle, they just ran out of money.
My previous response was a bit of a joke. Of course bleem! is surpassed now.
However, back then it got a lot of attention from the media, and it had a world-wide physical release.... it was also pirated a lot (cracked versions) and it got some bad press when people expected too much from it.
The DC versions were by far the best, but the damage was already done then.
I've still got my original bleem disk (1998 I think it was) around here somewhere.. I should fire up virtual pc and win95 see if it can run..lol
