Incorrect controls in Legend of Kay Anniversary

This game is basically and xbox port to the PC, and is played with a gamepad. Now you either need to use an xbox 360 controller to play, or hope it can recognize your dinput controller and work. In my case it didn't, so i had to use the x360ce to convert it to xinput. It works flawlessly as far as the utility shows, but in game it's far from perfect.

The game may show me to press Y, but no keys correspond to that. Jump is with A, but i need to press the left trigger for it. A on the other hand is treated as right arrow on the dpad. Generally the controls are all over the place, making it impossible to enjoy. I tried to move them all around to circumvent that, but the game ignored it all and continued with its trickery.

Any help or ideas are welcome.

I see. It doesn't recognize input from my logitech controller however, using x360ce was the only time it actually read a button or axis. Guess i'll give up on this and go for the PS2 version. It might be slightly lower res but this new one is basically the exact same with upscaled models and textures. The PS2 version has character shadows!
