Currently running 8gb of ram my machine can handle upto 24gb total thinking windows 10maybe next year? Current videocard has 2gb total and runs like crap on final fantasy 13 pc veraion at 4k setting, i"m think a gpu like 980 ti or furyx with 8gb videoram would be ideal paired with 24gb sustem memory??

I figured games were already hitting the limit on video ram, it looks like i"ll wait until mid 2016 to buy a new video card, I see ones with 8gb at the most and the slower titan with 12gb ram, have you guys seen the 980 ti lighting edition by msi? I think its on guru 3d thats its the fastest card out now with 8gb video ram I could have that card in 3 months if I wanted too, i"m trying to find something thats 60 fps across the board at 4k though, I plan on using the walmart layway this year to net a 4k tv to use my pc on, anyone else use their 1080p tvs with hdmi out to game on their 40" or 70" sets?

Ram limitations mainly come from textures and AA, system ram is fine at 8gb. Older games will be fine with 4gb video memory at 4k. Newer games don't seem to be limited by 6gb unless you try kite demo which needs 8.

The main limitation in 4k is that the GPUs aren't fast enough.
I can play 60fps in the Witcher, GTA5 and MGS but only by dropping a setting here and there from the highest to second highest. It's a negligible difference though.

Even a game at medium 4k looks better than very high 1080p due to image clarity being 4x the pixel density, you'll see further and everything looks less gamey as aliasing dies and shadows are more accurate.

As far as vram, the 980m is excellent with its 8gbs of gddr5 ram. Still have to overclock though because they all come underclocked by default. 16gb of ddr3l ram does fine for me processor wise. So after overclocking and having everything on max settings with external filters also, it runs smooth. The only jaggies left are those of the horizon on the water. 5K gets rid of that, but the game is too stronk for that. If only dof shaders worked for this game, then those far away horizons wouldn't have jaggies. The game caps it's at 30fps when the rez is higher than normal though. Thought I'd make you aware of that. All games are different though, some games you wouldn't have to overclock at all because of their great optimization. I'm speaking from a laptop perspective.

Staying at 8gb will still be slower than a 16gb system even when the same ram amount is used because in the 16gb area, the programs have more accessways to get to where they need to get to instead of squeezing through a tighter area. Just like brain cells. The more you have, the faster you think even if given the same exact information to process.
