So, post some of then. These screenshots weren't meant to be posted anywhere, but I thought a thread like this would be a good idea and, since I have to start, I'm posting a few pics of some games I've been playing lately.
I'm not embedding all the pics because it's not necessary.
The games are:
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Booom.
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Come here, you ugly clown.
Left 4 Dead
Give Blood. Save lives.
Need For Speed: Shift
I'm good at this.
Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
Stalker has the most life-like sky I've ever seen in a game.
I'm enjoying The Evil Within, it's less "scary" and more "uncomfortable", but in a good way. It keeps me uncomfortable by never making me feel like I'm in control. The game reminds me of a dream-state, in a way. Where things that don't make sense, end up making sense in a "dream" kind of way. Falling in a hole, this hole rotating to the side, turning into a tunnel in which you walk. This type of "dream logic". The monsters are not particularly spooky (even if some of them are a bit original), and I never find myself going "OH GOD I DON'T WANT TO LOOK", but I'm always on edge, unaware of what will happen next exactly.
Then I also reinstalled Fallout 4, to test some cool mods (adding more interesting npcs, adding more stories) and the new textures. Did you guys know that if you untick a DLC on Steam it doesn't merely deactive the DLC, it apparently also deletes all of its data from your drive? Because that's when I found out when trying to troubleshoot a bug. A texture bug. When I unticked the new texture dlc. And lost 60gb of textures. Goddamnit.
Anyway, I typically avoid improving/tweaking graphics through performance-heavy 3rd party stuff like Enb. I very rarely find one I enjoy, one which works well with the entire game, and one which doesn't kill performance. But I enjoy mods which improve graphics by tweaking the actual game, I picked 3 this time around. One which tweaks outdoor weather + lightning, one which replaces grass with better grass, and a new one which tweaks all indoor lighting. (I hope it doesnt conflict with the weather one in any way).
The grass mod has a pretty big impact on FPS, but grass + new textures still gave me a good FPS. Afterward I decided to add a reshade preset just to add some SMAA, better colors and sharpening. I remember when Reshade only had a 1 fps impact... This one brought me from 60fps to 50fps. The fuck guys? Anyway, here's some screenshots.
First DLC for BF1 (4 maps, new game mode) released, so I played one map quickly. I took a few screenshots, but reinstalled MSI Afterburner and didn't tell it not to show my on-screen display (FPS, temperature, GPU usage) when taking screenshots. Downside is the pretty pictures have numbers on them. Upside is you guys at least get to see what kind of FPS a normal gaming PC gets when playing the game. (averaged 80 to 85)
I think the original design by Bethesda was meant to be slightly cartoonish. I had that impression back when they first showed the game.
With that said, you're right that the brighter colors make it pop out a little more. The colors felt washed out by default, so I used a very simple sweetfx preset to increase them a bit.
I've only just now realized that some of the objects in that room are floating over the ground.
Quick glimpse at Mass Effect: Andromeda.
The environment looks great. The character models with armors look pretty good too. But the models outside armor + faces are both as bad as advertised. And animations can be glaringly lazy in moments. Such as watching a Turian talk. They simply stretch the lips, and make the tongue levitate up and down inside the mouth. It's weeeeiiiiirrrrdddd.
The gameplay is alright. Cover system took a bit to get used to, and I'd prefer a manual button for it still, but it works. The combat is better overall, for people who prefer action. I only did the intro planet/mission + a bit of multiplayer. The intro mission was nice, it gave freedom to the player and did reward me for it. Found a bit of side-content, and my characters actually mentioned it in conversations later on.
If the game expands on what made the intro mission good, it'll be a fun game. If they patch in some better models+animations, and the game stays good, it'll be a worthwhile addition to the series. But those two remains "if" for now, it's merely a quick impression on what I've played.
As for the multiplayer: seems similar to the MP in Mass Effect 3, except I'm not sure it impacts the SP. I think my SP character might get rewards from me playing in the MP? Like items and such. I saw that the main character can send missions in the SP, and I can either have the AI randomly succeeds or fail, or I can take on the mission myself. It's a neat little system. I'm just not sure I enjoy the MP, as it's just very very simplistic missions in a tiny arena. Waves of monsters to be killed, very shallow objectives to complete. That's why that part reminds me of Mass Effect 3's MP.
I don't find performance to be as good as it should be. It's a pretty game, but not pretty enough not to run a bit faster. What mainly troubles me is that some scenes which don't look special at all bring my FPS down to 45. I'm talking about a very normal looking room, short view distance, nothing gorgeous about it.
This last picture is what happened in my second MP mission, as I randomly lost connection:
If we ignore the animation issues, the game is still very buggy overall. If you're worried about bugs, I'd say to wait a good month at least.
Bioware will talk about their plans regarding patches later this week, on the 4th I believe. It'll be easier to gauge how fast/slow their patching process will be afterward.
More Final Fantasy 14. I'm up to level 28, the free trial goes up to level 35. Hit me up if you want a referral.
I really like the lighting in this game. And I enjoy seeing a medieval fantasy game with a more serious style to it, without going full-on-serious.
OH GOD NO, NOT THE LOST WOODS FROM ZELDA AGAIN. NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo
The benefit of older games is that they're so easily compatible with supersampling. Something else I find interesting is when they're already compatible with 144hz monitors, when so many modern games struggle to go over 60fps (or in dumb cases, 30fps).
Started playing Expeditions Viking, it's a turn-based RPG game. I'm not 100% sure what the goal is/how to accomplish it, but here's what I understand so far:
You are the leader of a viking clan. You have one year to prove you deserve to survive. You will be given quests, there is an underlying story, but you also have to manage your time wisely, manage your clan/village (upgrade it, make choices), and manage the group of warriors you are traveling with (keeping them fed and healthy). I'm enjoying the mix between RPG and manager.
But be warned: the game is buggy as fuuuuuuuuuck.
I also revisit Planet Coaster every once in a while. People are creating interesting custom scenery objects all the time, and the game can be quite gorgeous at times. With that said I don't get the new "security" mechanic. Half of my staff are security guards, I have security cameras everywhere, WHY AM I STILL GETTING MY SHIT STOLEN.
Some Destiny 2 and Battlefield 1.
First, just 2 pictures of a new map in BF1, because I think it's very pretty.
Now some Destiny 2. Graphics are mostly maxed. I tried the FXAA/SMAA offered and was a bit disappointed, due to some lighting effects looking aliased as fuck. MSAA didn't work too well either. Thankfully, the game comes with a resolution slider, so I could increase my resolution + SMAA to make the picture look better and still tweak the slider to keep my FPS over 60.
Solo/tutorial? PVE Mission: it wasn't that interesting, to be honest. Run of the mill tutorial mission where you walk forward through a few corridors and shoot people. Bright side was the lack of tutorial prompt, you just got to play.
I was interested in testing some of the more "open world" stuff that I ?think? Destiny has to offer. But after this intro mission, I was brought to a menu and was offered 3 choices. 2 pvp missions, and one PvE group mission. I tried the PvE group mission, not expecting much after the intro, but it was honestly much better. Nothing amazing, but the environment was nice, there was some nice platforming, the enemies were a bit more interesting, and it gave more of a challenge. Not what I was playing the beta for, but not a bad showcase of the game.
LBA on Android, loved it back in the day, loving it now. The Android port seems vastly easier though, touch controls are ok, and get got rid of the really annoying damage while hitting obstacles when Twinsen is running.
Shots are not of the best quality, I don't have a HDMI capture device so I used Office Lens + a small bit of editing.
These shots might make it look like a PS2 game but it looks a lot better than that in reality.
