So, post some of then. These screenshots weren't meant to be posted anywhere, but I thought a thread like this would be a good idea and, since I have to start, I'm posting a few pics of some games I've been playing lately.

I'm not embedding all the pics because it's not necessary.

The games are:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Booom.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Come here, you ugly clown.

Left 4 Dead

Give Blood. Save lives.

Need For Speed: Shift

I'm good at this.

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl

Stalker has the most life-like sky I've ever seen in a game.

At times the game is gorgeous, others it feels very sparse and barren. Fun game, just feels a bit empty.

Resolution is downsampled from 4213 x 1764, running everything at highest settings and AF forced in the nvidia control panel, SMAA T2 is disabled as it causes blurring and a weird ghosting effect. At native 3440 x 1440 there's a lot of aliasing, downsampling is the berries.

I was curious and decided to give a test to AC: Origins. I like that the Graphics setting windows actually shows you the performance of the last 30 seconds of the game. Very useful. I'd increase it to the last 60 seconds instead, but still, nice feature to have!
Edit: This is used while you're actually in-game, but the Performance Tools give access to an even better benchmark. Not only does it show FPS, CPU latency and GPU latency, but it even shows the difference between past and current results.

Star Ocean 4 on the PC, 4k 60fps joy. Got it for ÂŁ13
I'm using a 980 with a 4790k these days and performance is flawless

The gameplay and progression systems are very good, VA not so much.
The UI elements are little too large on 4k settings, awaiting a user patch

Geological phenomenon

Mate and I blasted through the dreamcast version of Tony Hawk 2 the other day, reshade helped a great deal with covering up some of the pain on native rendering within DEmul and it got me back into the swing of tooling around with emulators again. Planning on going through THPS3, Godhand, Muramasa, F-Zero and a few other favourites with some shaders for shits and giggles.

Messing around with Muramasa.

Stock

Profile 1 (I think magic blur, lumasharpen, CRT, fake HDR and tint are on)

Profile 2 (technicolour 1 and 2 are enabled)

Half the fun is trying to get a look that you like, then reconfiguring everything for another game. For some reason, I really like the Chromatic Abberation effect on Muramasa.

The cool thing running this on an HDTV in the living room when you're sitting far away, it feels comfy.

Playing Bad Rats 2 and it's good lads.

Some of the bosses are real pieces of shit, they are massive sponges and the Chaos boss is just dumb, moves super quick, can self heal and is just a real downer on the whole affair.

On the plus side I shouted a roid rat off a cliff and it was good times. Game is very fun, I like it a lot better than the first, but for me I need more time to understand the nuances and for there to be more patient players on rotation. So many dudes are throwing hissy fits and bailing when the slightest challenge hits them.

Visually the game is pretty grim, I would have liked a few more creative uses of ligthing to make progression a bit more interesting, and I would love to see more of the eccentric artwork from the universe with really cool colouring making an appearance, but for what it is I think it's pretty good. Just a bit bland at times and doesn't really put the nail on the atmosphere.

Also borderless window boned up my framerate big time, lots of slowdown and speed up, full screen is glorious and not a hitch on the 1080ti at extreme preset (as it fucking should plow through no issues).

So is it Far Cry 4 (I know it's called 5, but up till now we actually have not gotten a new Far Cry) or still a derivative of 3?

It's not incredibly different or original, but it doesn't feel super derivative like 4 was.

Weirdly enough, the game it reminded me the most of was GTA 5 in FPS mode. If you removed the main city from the game and focused on the wilderness, it kinda felt like it.
They removed the concept of "towers" to open up new areas. Now you just explore at your own leisure. There's a greater focus on characters with their own missions and different personalities. It's still not a game with tons of interesting dialogues, but there are more stories to be found. There are also many small puzzles hidden around the world to access caches of loot. (Using a truck to move a trailer parked on top of the door of a bunker, swimming under the water to access a locked shack to start a generator and drain a flooded bunker, stuff like that)

There are still very obvious Far Cry elements, such as picking up herbs around you to craft stuff. There are also small repetitive tasks all around you (mainly related to destroying stuff built by the cultists), but not only are they easy to avoid, I STRONGLY recommend avoiding them. The main mechanic of the game is that your actions give you Resistance Points to fight back against the cultists in the 3 regions of the game (each with its own leader). Missions give you a lot of points, repetitive tasks give you a small amount. I recommend actively avoiding the smaller tasks because of how easy and fast it is to fill the Resistance Points bars. They seriously fill faster than I'd expect, so at this point it's best to just focus on actual missions.

Personally:
- I enjoyed Far Cry 3, but eventually stopped because it just repeated itself too much. Lost interest relatively close to the end of the game.
- I started 4 and almost immediately stopped. Had no interest.
- 5 is pretty fun so far and I expect I'll finish it. Mainly because there's more stories for me to find all around, it's more engaging to me.

Not back. But never quite gone either. This site still opens in my browser each and every day, I can't bring myself to change that, but I tend to only look if there's something new going on in this thread. Just really don't have time for forums anymore. Though whilst I say that I found a local SA forum that I'm a little active on since general threads are a little more relevant but even that barely. I just spend too much time on posts. That was fine when I was studying, I've got really good memory so as soon as I understand how to do something aside from completing assignments I had almost nothing else to do, no extra studying and therefore tons and tons and tons of free time, more than enough for all my hobbies. Now with work though I have to choose between talking about games and media, finding out about them watching trailers and mini-reviews on youtube, or actually playing them and enjoying them/watching them. And I choose going silent and just playing or watching. Not really fair on you guys but I can't half and half it, it has to be all on or all off.

This thread has served me well over the years though as I tended to use it to tweak my monitors and every once in a while I would see a cool game. And now it makes me feel good about finally having a monitor that requires no tweaking, the Samsung CFG70. To me this thread is currently a little bit like the whole forum, although once a month or so I lurk the rest too.

So hello, and cheers again.

I understand, people grow up and interests and time management becomes a big decision factor.

I recently got a 2tb hdd and I've been stocking up games but I barely play them. But can't complain when you are making money or spending time with your family.

I don't understand. Games take precedence over all.
Lol, indeed Thanakil, indeed. Well games, and anime, and CW shows, and movies, and and and.

Wasn't really an interest change though, just a time one. It just hit me one day that I was spending all day at work typing up stuff and then spending almost all the free time left me typing about stuff on a forum on a gaming keyboard that barely saw any gaming. Talking about how I would like to play this or that newly released game or old classic but suddenly finding myself without the time to do so. So I basically I was typing 24/7 and no longer getting to enjoy the things I wanted to enjoy. Not saying the forum wasn't enjoyable but it was step 1 of a 2-step process and I barely ever got to step 2, when step 2 was the thing that I really needed to "cleanse" myself of the past day's or week's bullshit.
I have never said this before but whilst I don't suffer from anxiety like some of our past members have I'm not a big fan of interacting with people in real life, it takes a lot of energy having to deal with people not entirely on your wavelength. I can do it just fine but if it's all I do I feel like I start to lose myself and I need to reset that daily or I suffer massive amounts of mental fatigue because without that reset there is today which is tomorrow and was yesterday, it's just all the same with progressively less of me in it. And the reset isn't interacting with yet more people online, it's vanishing into a fantasy world where I apply energy and thought entirely differently for a sizable chunk of time. (this might sound dangerous but other than a greater demand for me-time than some others perhaps have I assure you it's less in need of psychiatry than it sounds)

So how I was spending my time had to change for my sanity, cold turkey was needed.
The interests are still there, I could choose to come back tomorrow and it would be almost as if I had never left, but now I silently walk the walk instead of also talking the talk.

And no, one can't complain when spending time with family. But earning extra money that allows you to afford "toys" and not having any time for those toys is something well worthy of complaint.
