    [This should be pinned]

    People keep posting new threads that the sound does not work so here is the thread for those people who are new to dolphin, and that they will not create any more sound issue related threads.

    The sound emulation barley works -- it is still in development. The plugin, "Plugin_DSP_HLE.dll", is the best working sound plugin you can use in dolphin (it should come with Dolphin else Download it from here). There are a few games where the audio works when using this plugin.

    If you want to audio to work in the Zelda games then then click here to read how to get it working, thanks to John Peterson

    [Working/Partial]
    -18 Wheeler: {reported by Hemi3}

    -Alien Hominid: {reported by Hemi3}

    -Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance: has sound. {reported by Hemi3}

    -Metroid Prime: sound effects work and choppy music in menu and intro cutscene, and music works in intro cutscene also {reported by omegadox}
    -Metriod Prime 2 Echoes: Some music works like in the main menu, same with sound effects and some choppy audio in intro cutscene {reported by omegadox}

    Feel free to post anymore game titles that have working audio with this plugin.

    If you want to help the development on the audio, we need the custom 81Mhz 16-bit Macronix Digital Signal Processor chip documented or figure out the file formats of each audio file on the gamecube disk ROM.

    Great idea, omegadox, but I think you should change the work "download" in "best working sound plugin you can download for dolphin" to "use" or "equip" so that people don't come on asking "Wat is da link for da DPSHLEPLUGIN for sound pls?!?!!?"
    You know, just make it clear that _it comes with dolphin._
    Also, do you feel you should mention the special version from the Zelda-TP thread which plays the music in a few games like SSBM? You know, the one with the console window that runs in the background (revision 37 I think it was...).

    Mario Party 6 and 7, Crazy Taxi, Eternal Darkness, Lego Starwars, Ikaruga, Burnout 2, Mario Power Tennis all have sound working. You should edit the first post to reflect what I added and maybe add the names of the users who reported it.

    I noticed that the Mario Sunshine movie music now worked. How can that be? Doesn't it use the same unknown microcode as the rest of the game? Could the movie use the AX code? But the rest of the game another code? Ector?

    Also I didn't realise that the NULL plugin was so similar to the HLE plugin. The biggest difference is that UCode AX and Mixer has more code in the HLE. Even DSoundStream for playing sound is in the NULL plugin. But it's not used there right? (Also NULL did not have any libao output code, but I guess that's the same thing as DSoundStream but for ao.h instead of dsound.h). I'll look very closely at the AX and Mixer code that was not in the NULL plugin and see if I can find something funny there :).

    It turns out that the THP library, one of the common video libraries for GC used especially by Nintendo, actually bypasses the DSP and writes the audio straight to the output FIFO. So now that I emulated that, in my quest to get audio in homebrew programs working, well ... it just so happened that many videos in various games got sound. Did not expect that :)

    Well, it was a good accident, one small step closer to having 100% working audio in every game.
