Original Tutorial and Compatibility list by Eileen (en Español)
    Translation by Google

N.B. References in the first person (I) are to Eileen, the original author, any additions by me (OddbOd) are in square brackets.

This list includes recommendations so that the games work as well as possible, some entries have specific instructions to get certain difficult to emulate games to work. Also I have stated if the games support vibration or not, although for this to work you must have a controller with force feedback [I use a Dual Shock 2 controller with a Tigergame Super Joy Box USB adapter].

    Test System:

    • Pentium 900 Mhz
    • 256MBs of RAM
    • Integrated AC97 based soundcard
    • GeForce2MX based graphics card
    • Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power 3 [a good choice as it supports force feedback and has buttons on the analog sticks, the only things missing are the Start and Select buttons]

The base configuration of the emulator is:

    Graphics: Pete´s D3D driver 1.74

    Resolution/Color:
    - 1024x768 Fullscreen - [16 Bit]

    Textures:
    - R8G8A8A8
    - Filtering: 2
    - Hi-Res textures: 0
    - VRam size: 32 MBytes

    Framerate:
    - FPS limit: on
    - Frame skipping: off
    - FPS limit: Auto

    Compatibility:
    - Offscreen drawing: 4
    - Framebuffer texture: 1
    - Framebuffer access: 1
    - Alpha multipass: on
    - Mask bit: off
    - Advanced blending: hardware

    Misc:
    - Scanlines: off [0]
    - Unfiltered FB: off
    - Dithering: on
    - Screen smoothing: off
    - Full vram: off
    - Game fixes: off [00000080]
    Sound: ePSXe SPU core 1.5.2

    Enable Sound: ON
    Enable CDDA: ON
    Enable XA Sound: ON
    Enable SPU IRQ hack: OFF
CDROM: ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.5.2

Enable subchannel read from cdrom: OFF
Enable subchannel caching to disk: OFF
Enable subchannel caching for LG8520/21/22b: OFF
    BIOS: SCPH-7502

Take into account that depending on your equipment or the configuration that you use, results may vary slightly. If you have a powerful computer you can try 32bit colour, higher resolution, use 2xsai filter, etc. If you have a less powerful computer then lower the resolution or use a SoftGPU plugin. ePSXe does not require too much computing power and most games are playable on a decent PII (>333mhz) though a few will require at least a 500Mhz CPU.

Obviously I have not exhaustively tested all games right to the end, "100% Perfect" means they start and play normally, most of the time there will be no problems. Games marked as "Perfect" or "Almost Perfect" work perfectly or with minor flaws that do not affect the gameplay [titles are in Green]. "Good" means that it works but has some problems of greater consequence (i.e. the gameplay is slower than normal, although it continues to be enjoyable). "OK" indicates a more serious problem (i.e. a game with unsynchronized sound or other problem that causes the game experience to suffer) [titles are in Blue]. "Non Functional" or "Unplayable" means that the game is not emulated at all or works so badly that it cannot be played [titles are in Red]. To give you an idea of how good an emulator ePSXe is, have a look at these statistics. From a total of 371 tested games, 341 games are "100% Perfect", in "Almost Perfect" there are 17 games. That means that 96.5% of ALL the games that I have tested work perfectly. There are 3 titles within the category "Good" (noticeable problems but still playable), 2 in the category of "OK" (acceptable but with more serious problems) and 8 in the categories "Unplayable" or "Non Functional".

In addition, one of these games works well with the PCSX emulator (Shadow Madness). A few games work better in previous versions of ePSXe, with older plugins or in another emulator. My advice is to download ePSXe 1.5.2, PCSX and some older versions fo Pete's video plugins. Generally though you are not going to need anything else, and in any case this is all indicated in the compatibility list.

The only problem I've had so far with Driver 2 is sometimes there's a little bit of garbage left over if I pass over a menu option, but it isn't too noticable. Other than that, it runs perfectly (even with less slowdown than on a real PSX). I'm using Pete's OGL2 plugin with the Eternal SPU and Mooby's plugin.

What do you have Framebuffer upload set to? Does it work better set to Full?
Would you be able to test the game with Pete's D3D plugin as I don't really want to exclude people with cards that don't support OGL2. If you do, does setting Frame Buffer access to 0 or 4 help with the menu corruption?

    If I have time tomorrow, I'll test it with the OGL1, D3D and DX6 D3D plugins :).

    Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.5
    Author: Pete Bernert
    Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
GFX card: RADEON 9500 Pro x86/MMX/3DNow!/SSE

    Resolution/Color:
    - 640x480 Window mode
    - Internal X resolution: 1
    - Internal Y resolution: 1
    - Keep psx aspect ratio: off
    - No render-to-texture: off

    - Filtering: 0
    - Hi-Res textures: 0
    - TexWin pixel shader: on
    - VRam size: 128 MBytes

    Framerate:
    - FPS limitation: on
    - Frame skipping: off
    - FPS limit: Auto

    Compatibility:
    - Offscreen drawing: 1
    - Framebuffer effects: 2
    - Framebuffer uploads: 2

    Misc:
    - Scanlines: off
    - Mdec filter: off
    - Screen filtering: off
    - Shader effects: 0/1
    - GF4/XP crash fix: off
    - Game fixes: on [00000002] (I turn off the game fix when I play anything other than FF7/FF8)

With those settings it seems to work fine. When I set the FB effects to 3 it looks pretty much the same but I get a lower FPS when I disable frame limiting.
    BTW, great thread :D.

can you give me the sound settings to make the movies in xenogears actually give off sound? I got it working before but it suddenly stopped and for the life of me I can't figure it out!
Settings for any plugin would suffice, but the core settings that you gave i've tried and it doesn't work, but only for the movies...which is the only part i can't get to work :(

Unfortunately, the text only show up correctly in VH if you use Peopsoft plug-in. For some reason with any of the regular "hardware" plug-ins the text appears kinda blotchy.

Chrono Cross works in ePSXe 1.60 if you use the "-noauto" parameter

Spidey01: Cloudbill already answered your question here.

No I can't, the purpose of this thread is not to help people with their problems, there is an entire forum dedicated to that. The answer can easily be found by searching for "xenogears fmv sound".

Rather than end on a negative note I would like to take this opportunity to thank n_w95482, cloudbill and RZetlin for their contributions, good work :thumb:

hehe... i know what the problem is... if you do a forum search for a keyword and open up a thread through there, the keywords are all highlighted red, this is where the confusion comes from

likewhoa03, read the rules. Thrill Kill has never been really released so all versions that anyone may have are warez versions. in conclusion, dont talk about that game around here, i dont want to have to close oddb0d's excellent thread :)

I first found this list through a link in the ePSXe users manual, I was suprised that I had'nt seen it at other forums as it has some really useful info. I read it carefully and I did'nt see any warnings about reproducing it, so I posted it at another forum and and asked people to add to it, I hope this is OK :)

A guy on that forum called Weirdanzeige has turned it into a .txt file so it can be viewed outside the website...

    http://www.geocities.com/weirdanzeige@sbcglobal.net/compatabilitylist.txt

If I've stepped on someone's toes here then I extend my apologies and offer to delete the offending threads
