Are they even playable? are they equivalent to PS and N64 emulators or are they going to slow down massively while trying to use a DeSmuME? I've used the PS emulator pretty successfully and thats all 3DS games to look like but I haven't tried any and was curious on what we are going to look at? I still can't play Golden sun all that well so im not sure how I would be able to play 3DS games.

I'll just pretend I didn't read that. The DS and 3DS are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PIECES OF HARDWARE.

As far as I know 3DS games haven't even been dumped yet so the question whether they can be emulated (which they definitely can't) is still irrelevant at this point.

The 3DS will need an entirely new emulator and may not get one.

It's like saying that a cellphone is 2/3 like a ds. The difference is way more than meets the eye.

zeromus knows about that though so unless he was being sarcastic he could be right (not that people have gotten that far poking around the 3DS though as far as I know)

He is right. 3DS is 2/3 like NDS:

    1 2 3
    n d s
    3 d s

    2/3.

still we cant even guarantee how fast a 3ds emulator be, there isnt one yet, if there is it may be faster than desmume since it is more likely that the graphics can be done in hardware.... still it is speculation as we still dont have enough info on the 3ds hardware

Not very long. The 3DS is taking much much longer.

Well for one thing even if we do get an emu some day, do we need a stereoscopic 3D monitor?? If so chances of it getting emulated are pretty slim since almost nobody has it now and it wont become popular OR cheap (if it does) commercially as monitors for atleast the next 5 - 10 years

I will answer your question with a riddle.

Jack has two eyes, with acuity. Depth resolves from an inch to an infinity.
Frank has one eye--please dont stare, he lost it wrestling last year with a grizzly bear.
The two can play street fighter 4, jack as ken and frank favors zangief (of course).
Each of them a 3ds, so skilled but matched, each round the victor is a guess.
Tell me, reader, if you can see, how this scenario could somehow be?

Frank played so much SF that he can play blind, just by listening. Other than that, I think Frank wouldn't see the game any different either way.

The 3DS's 3D effect is just a post processing effect that requires a glassesless display to be seen. Obviously, it can be disabled or not even implemented and still work just fine. On the dev side of things, dummy code may be needed, but a typical user need not concern himself/herself with the technicalities.

In all likelihood, it will be entirely optional.

still more discussion of an 3ds emulator, why bother when not even a single rom hasnt been dumped yet... also discussing about emulating the 3d display, also pointless, the emulator will be in 2d first since 3ds can run all games in 2d, once thats done then and only then it is worth discussing about how the 3d effect is done on the pc...

I font know why people are jumping the gun and discussing of emulator what it can and cannot do or how it should run, first of all we need a rom dumped and second we need more info on the hardware.... also saying it is 2/3 of ds hardware is wrong at a emulation point of view, it wont be as easy to take 2/3 of desmume code and voila you got a 3ds emulator, actually here is a reality check, the emulator needs to start from scratch therefore no making a 3ds emulator is neither easy nor will quick to make
