    Inversion

Running just shy of 4K downsampled to 2560x1440. It plays like Gears of War meets Red Faction, except they took away anything cool about the protagonist and made him the definition of generic white guy. Plays kinda clunky, doesn't flow very well, but eh, it does some cool things. Looks okay, janky animation kinda hurts it a bit, and the lighting is pretty simple. Eh, it's okay I guess.

I've always been a little disappointed that Boris never went back and fixed his Vampire Bloodline's ENB.
It added a very neat effect to some surfaces which helped to reduce to flat they looked. An example here:

The big issue with his ENB tho is that it sometime/often breaks during cutscenes. Someone turns the light off and everything becomes incredibly dark. It has a few other downsides (stupidly bright picture, ugly bloom/blurry effect) but those are actually fixed by editing the ini.
I haven't found a way to fix the "darkness" bug.

Using SweetFX, it's actually possible to find somewhat of a compromise between the vanilla game and the ENB profile, but it still sadly miss the neat surface effect + the different lighting used in ENB.

    My SweetFX attempt: http://i.imgur.com/8ZrjpdX.jpg
At least, using Sweetfx means I can force AA through the drivers. ENB doesn't exactly like those.

You've done well with your sweetfx settings dude, looks nice and moody. I remember tooling around with the ENB stuff for Vampire years ago, but that was on a crummy laptop that couldn't handle the processing. Looked good though, even at 10fps.

You've lost that dude standing in the shadows on the left but other than that your SweetFX version does indeed look good.

Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires (Steam version)

This is a strange game, in that all the fixes they did in DW8XL are missing such as the amount of soldiers onscreen as well as no longer suddenly popping into existence. They also removed the fame types from DW7E, and reduced it to mere Good/Neutral/Evil. That is quite some steps backwards, as the each fame type had a different ending. Oh well, since this is the first Empires game on PC, I'm giving it LOTS of tolerance at this point. :3

How does an Empires differ from a regular Dynasty Warriors?

My city isn't terribly original in its design (squares everywhere!), but it's doing a good job of teaching me the basics.

Also, someone made a mod which allows downsampling in the game. You can change your resolution through a slider as you play, it's great.

I like how you have heavy industry yet with trees neatly planted along the road. I wouldn't want to live there, though :p

Most of the colors disappear when looking from very far away, but the game does use a very simple visual design with very light colors mixed with lots of white.
I think it also depends by district. My main "normal" city has more of a pastel color palette, which made the colors of my agricultural district seem a little bolder. You might like those better:

Edit: I forgot to add: modding the game is VERY easy, which leads to people making their own versions of different building.
A developer who used to work on Simcity uploading a completely new building on Steam. It's possible to change the visual style of the game if needed, tho I like the simple design they went for.
Edit2: This is the building he created, I thought it was neat.

Oh, don't worry. I just threw every oil plants together, created a lot of space, and threw all the houses together farther away.
To give an idea of the scale of the area: those oil plants are in the top left in a big square. The houses are a little to the south.
Those huge wind turbines are near the water.

I don't think my people could live near the plants. Mostly because those CONSTANTLY catch on fire. One day they'll blow up half the city.

No, it's complete an total absence of anything strong in visuals that's bothering me. Only light shades of stuff, no solid red or blue, no yellow, no black.
If you compare it to SimCity...any SimCity (any other city builder for that matter, also XXL) then it's completely devoid of any punch or contrast. Even Tropico has a stronger colour scheme and I previously thought that was lacking a bit. It's like someone did a paint-by numbers with water colours and got about 60% done and then accidentally spilled the remaining water on the painting diluting all the colours that were already present and then rather than trying to fix it or starting over deciding that they were done and putting it up in a professional gallery. Look at it, there's not a single prime colour, all blue houses are wearing Jeans. Nothing red either, it's all just various shades of lipstick.

The game doesn't look bad...but it looks incomplete. It's like the visuals never left Alpha.

And soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much Blur. It's like they tried to use DOF to create a fog of war.

If Mirror's Edge had this colour scheme it would have tanked really badly.

The blur can be completely disabled, it's just the Tilt Effect.
I can understand not liking the visual design of the game, but I'm not sure I see the use in comparing a city-builder design to a FPS one.
It doesn't lead to a game "tanking", either way. Cities just sold 250k copies in a single day. Plenty of games wish they could sell this much in their first week total.
I can see it not being your thing, but it's the first time I see such a dislike for the visual aspect of the game, so I'm not sure it's such a great sin against gaming.

I'd meant Cities XL etc. of which the latest is XXL, not the old shooter.
And it's not such a major sin but to me it will feel like the game is perpetually in Alpha thanks to the lack of strong colours because it feels like an incomplete colouring job that was done more for the sake of telling things apart than making them actually looking the way they were meant to.
I do understand it's a good game, it's just a shame it feels so wrong to me but I will eventually get it.

Someone made a Mirror's Edge mod (color correction) for Cities:

And someone else made an isometric camera, like the old Simcity games

Btw, I recently started playing The Old Republic again. I'm currently on the planet of Hoth:

    Ok, so now with colors.

And now, with a Borderlands mod: http://i.imgur.com/lm3b4p2.jpg
It looks better with a normal camera, but I forgot to take screenshots of it.
The normal game with a normal camera, but a "tropical" color correction and some SSAO: http://i.imgur.com/8q3dhHu.jpg

And random TOR screenshots, the game doesn't look too bad with supersampling:

Latest Cities Skylines update adds the ability to tunnel roads and rails. Sadly no rail-metro transfer yet. No pedestrian tunnels either.
Still, a very important update overall, as you can see why:

Those night shots look delicious. Despite the lack of true global illumination it still looks awesome.
